Do not be conformed ¹  to this present world, ²  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve ³  what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

The one who tells the truth ¹  will endure forever, but the one who lies ²  will last only for a moment. ³ 

Have I not written thirty sayings ¹  for you, sayings ²  of counsel and knowledge,

Apply ¹  your heart to instruction and your ears to the words of knowledge.

As for teqel – you are weighed on the balances and found to be lacking.

While ¹  the Pharisees ²  were assembled, Jesus asked them a question: ³ 

But Jesus ¹  perceived their deceit ²  and said to them,

Do not judge according to external appearance, ¹  but judge with proper ²  judgment.”

And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

He was in the wilderness forty days, ¹  enduring temptations from Satan. He ²  was with wild animals, and angels were ministering to his needs. ³ 

Another ¹  said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, ²  and I am going out ³  to examine them. Please excuse me.’

“Simon, ¹  Simon, pay attention! ²  Satan has demanded to have you all, ³  to sift you like wheat, ⁴ 

Now this is the basis for judging: ¹  that the light has come into the world and people ²  loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.

I know, my God, that you examine thoughts ¹  and are pleased with integrity. With pure motives ²  I contribute all this; and now I look with joy as your people who have gathered here contribute to you.

Moreover, you continued to provoke the Lord at Taberah, ¹  Massah, ²  and Kibroth-Hattaavah. ³ 

Take heed, do not turn to evil, for because of this you have been tested ¹  by affliction.

May the Lord rain down ¹  burning coals ²  and brimstone ³  on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! ⁴ 

He gives me the agility of a deer; ¹  he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain. ² 

He says, ¹  “Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, ²  like they were that day at Massah ³  in the wilderness, ⁴ 

The Lord severely ¹  punished me, but he did not hand me over to death.
