“We are descendants ¹  of Abraham,” they replied, ²  “and have never been anyone’s slaves! How can you say, ³  ‘You will become free’?”

We must perform the deeds ¹  of the one who sent me ²  as long as ³  it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, ¹  and no one can snatch ²  them from my Father’s hand.

Many ¹  came to him and began to say, “John ²  performed ³  no miraculous sign, but everything John said about this man ⁴  was true!”

Then one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, ¹  “You know nothing at all!

Thus the Pharisees ¹  said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!”

Jesus replied, ¹  “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. ²  No one comes to the Father except through me.

I will not speak with you much longer, ¹  for the ruler of this world is coming. ²  He has no power over me, ³ 

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it, ¹  so that your joy may be complete.

Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders, ¹  “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation ²  against him.”

Now at the place where Jesus ¹  was crucified ²  there was a garden, ³  and in the garden ⁴  was a new tomb where no one had yet been buried. ⁵ 

“We found the jail locked securely and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them, ¹  we found no one inside.”

So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open, ¹  he could see nothing. ²  Leading him by the hand, his companions ³  brought him into Damascus.

(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there used to spend their time ¹  in nothing else than telling ²  or listening to something new.) ³ 

because I am with you, and no one will assault ¹  you to harm ²  you, because I have many people in this city.”

Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important ¹  for your survival. ²  For not one of you will lose a hair from his head.”

I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean in itself; still, it is unclean to the one who considers it unclean.

None of the rulers of this age understood it. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians? ¹ 

If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, ¹  but do not have love, I receive no benefit.
