So when he heard that Lazarus ¹  was sick, he remained in the place where he was for two more days.

So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary was sitting in the house. ¹ 

The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. ¹ 

Because they had heard that Jesus ¹  had performed this miraculous sign, the crowd went out to meet him.

both Jews and proselytes, ¹  Cretans and Arabs – we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great deeds God has done!” ² 

Every person ¹  who does not obey that prophet will be destroyed and thus removed ²  from the people.’ ³ 

But many of those who had listened to ¹  the message ²  believed, and the number of the men ³  came to about five thousand.

Great ¹  fear gripped ²  the whole church ³  and all who heard about these things.

Then they secretly instigated ¹  some men to say, “We have heard this man ²  speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

When they heard these things, they became furious ¹  and ground their teeth ²  at him.

He ¹  fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, ²  why are you persecuting me?” ³ 

(Now the men ¹  who were traveling with him stood there speechless, ²  because they heard the voice but saw no one.) ³ 

On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord. ¹ 

But when the apostles ¹  Barnabas and Paul heard about ²  it, they tore ³  their clothes and rushed out ⁴  into the crowd, shouting, ⁵ 

After they stopped speaking, ¹  James replied, ²  “Brothers, listen to me.

The police officers reported these words to the magistrates. They were frightened when they heard Paul and Silas ¹  were Roman citizens ² 

When ¹  they heard ²  this they became enraged ³  and began to shout, ⁴  “Great is Artemis ⁵  of the Ephesians!”

When we heard this, both we and the local people ¹  begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.

(When they heard ¹  that he was addressing ²  them in Aramaic, ³  they became even ⁴  quieter.) ⁵  Then ⁶  Paul said,

Then I ¹  fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
