“‘You must not steal, you must not tell lies, and you must not deal falsely with your fellow citizen. ¹ 

If a man inflicts an injury on ¹  his fellow citizen, ²  just as he has done it must be done to him –

One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, but ²  one who beats a person to death must be put to death.

They ¹  will have no inheritance in the midst of their fellow Israelites; ²  the Lord alone is their inheritance, just as he had told them.

So all the men of Israel gathered together at the city as allies. ¹ 

That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the Lord:

They were banished from the community ¹  – people ²  shouted at them like they would shout at thieves ³  –

Therefore no fear of me should terrify you, nor should my pressure ¹  be heavy on you. ² 

Do not slander ¹  a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you are found guilty. ² 

“Yet your people ¹  say, ‘The behavior ²  of the Lord is not right,’ ³  when it is their behavior that is not right.

“To ¹  what should I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to one another, ² 

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

A man named Barabbas was imprisoned with rebels who had committed murder during an insurrection.

But ¹  the Pharisees ²  and the experts in the law ³  were complaining, ⁴  “This man welcomes ⁵  sinners and eats with them.”

But they all shouted out together, ¹  “Take this man ²  away! Release Barabbas for us!”

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your mat ¹  and walk’?” ² 

When ¹  they had brought them ²  before the magistrates, they said, “These men are throwing our city into confusion. ³  They are ⁴  Jews

At daybreak ¹  the magistrates ²  sent their police officers, ³  saying, “Release those men.”

Brothers and sisters, ¹  my heart’s desire and prayer to God on behalf of my fellow Israelites ²  is for their salvation.

I do all these things because of the gospel, so that I can be a participant in it.
