Do not become partners ¹  with those who do not believe, for what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship does light have with darkness?

Now ¹  this is the gospel ²  message ³  we have heard from him ⁴  and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. ⁵ 

If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking ¹  in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing ²  the truth.

Have the gates of death been revealed to you? ¹  Have you seen the gates of deepest darkness? ² 

I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past. ¹ 

Now ¹  the earth ²  was without shape and empty, ³  and darkness ⁴  was over the surface of the watery deep, ⁵  but the Spirit of God ⁶  was moving ⁷  over the surface ⁸  of the water. ⁹ 

When the sun went down, Abram fell sound asleep, ¹  and great terror overwhelmed him. ² 

He will not escape the darkness; ¹  a flame will wither his shoots and he will depart by the breath of God’s mouth. ² 

Tell us what we should ¹  say to him. We cannot prepare a case ²  because of the darkness.

Certainly ¹  my enemies ²  chase me. They smash me into the ground. ³  They force me to live ⁴  in dark regions, ⁵  like those who have been dead for ages.

The wise man can see where he is going, ¹  but the fool walks in darkness. Yet I also realized that the same fate ²  happens to them both. ³ 

The Beloved to the Maidens: I am dark but lovely, O maidens ¹  of Jerusalem, dark ²  like the tents of Qedar, ³  lovely ⁴  like the tent curtains ⁵  of Salmah. ⁶ 

Woe ¹  to those who wish for the day of the Lord! Why do you want the Lord’s day of judgment to come? It will bring darkness, not light.

Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’

If ¹  then ²  your whole body is full of light, with no part in the dark, ³  it will be as full of light as when the light of a lamp shines on you.” ⁴ 

So then ¹  whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered ²  in private rooms ³  will be proclaimed from the housetops. ⁴ 

The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.

for you were at one time darkness, but now you are ¹  light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light –

He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves, ¹ 

For you have not come to something that can be touched, ¹  to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwind
