The prophet ¹  asked, “Where did it drop in?” When he showed him the spot, Elisha ²  cut off a branch, threw it in at that spot, and made the ax head float.

The Lord is God and he has delivered us. ¹  Tie the offering ²  with ropes to the horns of the altar! ³ 

The canals ¹  will stink; ²  the streams of Egypt will trickle and then dry up; the bulrushes and reeds will decay,

The time is coming when Jacob will take root; ¹  Israel will blossom and grow branches. The produce ²  will fill the surface of the world. ³ 

He plucked off its topmost shoot; he brought it to a land of merchants and planted it in a city of traders.

You cleared the ground for it; ¹  it took root, ²  and filled the land.

The one who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous ¹  will flourish like a green leaf. ²
