The scorner ¹  seeks wisdom but finds none, ²  but understanding is easy ³  for a discerning person.

The one who gives to the poor will not lack, ¹  but whoever shuts his eyes to them ²  will receive ³  many curses. ⁴ 

Your misdeeds have stopped these things from coming. ¹  Your sins have deprived you of my bounty.’ ² 

He flashes ¹  destruction down upon the strong so that destruction overwhelms ²  the fortified places.)

As ¹  they were going away, ²  a man who could not talk and was demon-possessed was brought to him.

Eli’s eyes had begun to fail, so that he was unable to see well. At that time he was lying down in his place,

when those who keep watch over the house ¹  begin to tremble, ²  and the virile men begin to stoop over, ³  and the grinders ⁴  begin to cease because they grow few, and those who look through the windows grow dim, ⁵ 

The leaders of this nation were misleading people, and the people being led were destroyed. ¹
