This is the account of Noah. ¹  Noah was a godly man; he was blameless ²  among his contemporaries. ³  He ⁴  walked with ⁵  God.

This is the account ¹  of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons ²  were born ³  to them after the flood.

This is the account of Shem. Shem was 100 old when he became the father of Arphaxad, two years after the flood.

This is the account of Abraham’s son Ishmael, ¹  whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, bore to Abraham.

“If a man strikes the eye of his male servant or his female servant so that he destroys it, ¹  he will let the servant ²  go free ³  as compensation for the eye.

If he knocks out the tooth of his male servant or his female servant, he will let the servant ¹  go free as compensation for the tooth.

It happened that some men ¹  who were ceremonially defiled ²  by the dead body of a man ³  could not keep ⁴  the Passover on that day, so they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

“Therefore you will say to them, ¹  ‘When you offer up ²  the best of it, then it will be credited to the Levites as the product of the threshing floor and as the product of the winepress.

I will personally hold responsible ¹  anyone who then pays no attention to the words that prophet ²  speaks in my name.

But I will certainly ¹  hide myself at that time because of all the wickedness they ²  will have done by turning to other gods.

Joshua said to the people, “Do you agree to be witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to worship the Lord?” ¹  They replied, “We are witnesses!” ² 

They went up and camped in Kiriath Jearim in Judah. (To this day that place is called Camp of Dan. ¹  It is west ²  of Kiriath Jearim.)

David said to Saul, “Don’t let anyone be discouraged. ¹  Your servant will go and fight this Philistine!”

and called David’s enemies to account.” So Jonathan made a covenant ¹  with the house of David. ² 

He also removed the Sabbath awning ¹  that had been built ²  in the temple and the king’s outer entranceway, on account of the king of Assyria. ³ 

They speak sinful words. ¹  So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us! But to your name bring honor, ²  for the sake of your loyal love and faithfulness. ³ 

Whatever exists now has already been, and whatever will be has already been; for God will seek to do again ¹  what has occurred ²  in the past. ³ 

The Teacher says: I discovered this while trying to discover the scheme of things, item by item.

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales. He lifts ¹  the coastlands ²  as if they were dust.
