For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.

When ¹  Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but that instead a riot was starting, he took some water, washed his hands before the crowd and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. You take care of it yourselves!” ² 

This is the account ¹  of the heavens and the earth ²  when they were created – when the Lord God ³  made the earth and heavens. ⁴ 

The primary regions ¹  of his kingdom were Babel, ²  Erech, ³  Akkad, ⁴  and Calneh ⁵  in the land of Shinar. ⁶ 

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the people ¹  had started ²  building.

When the men got up to leave, ¹  they looked out over ²  Sodom. (Now ³  Abraham was walking with them to see them on their way.) ⁴ 

and they started on their journey. ¹  The surrounding cities were afraid of God, ²  and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

Then the man ¹  searched. He began with the oldest and finished with the youngest. The cup was found in Benjamin’s sack!

The Israelites journeyed ¹  from Rameses ²  to Sukkoth. There were about 600,000 men ³  on foot, plus their dependants. ⁴ 

The Israelites did so, and they gathered – some more, some less.

No longer may the Israelites approach the tent of meeting, or else they will bear their sin ¹  and die.

So Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

Then he uttered this oracle: “O, who will survive when God does this! ¹ 

These women invited ¹  the people to the sacrifices of their gods; then the people ate and bowed down to their gods. ² 

“‘For your eastern border you will draw a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.

Be careful ¹  not to say, “My own ability and skill ²  have gotten me this wealth.”

You will return and obey the Lord, keeping all his commandments I am giving ¹  you today.

They ate some of the produce of the land the day after the Passover, including unleavened bread and roasted grain. ¹ 

Their territory started at Aroer ¹  (on the edge of the Arnon Valley) and included the city in the middle of the valley, the whole plain of Medeba,

The third lot belonged to the tribe of Zebulun ¹  by its clans. The border of their territory ²  extended to Sarid.
