They are with Saul and the whole Israelite army ¹  in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.”

David said to Saul, “Don’t let anyone be discouraged. ¹  Your servant will go and fight this Philistine!”

Saul retained David ¹  on that day and did not allow him to return to his father’s house.

The women who were playing the music sang, “Saul has struck down his thousands, but David his tens of thousands!”

Jonathan responded to his father Saul, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”

So on that day David arose and fled from Saul. He went to King Achish of Gath.

So Saul mustered all his army to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men. ¹ 

When David realized that Saul was planning to harm him, ¹  he told Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod!”

Then Jonathan son of Saul left and went to David at Horesh. He encouraged him ¹  through God.

So Saul stopped pursuing David and went to confront the Philistines. Therefore that place is called Sela Hammahlekoth. ¹ 

(24:2) When Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, they told him, “Look, David is in the desert of En Gedi.”

Afterward David’s conscience bothered him ¹  because he had cut off an edge of Saul’s robe.

David said to Saul, “Why do you pay attention when men say, ‘David is seeking to do you harm’?

(Now Saul had given his daughter Michal, David’s wife, to Paltiel son of Laish, who was from Gallim.)

When Saul learned that David had fled to Gath, he did not mount a new search for him.

The Philistines assembled; they came and camped at Shunem. Saul mustered all Israel and camped at Gilboa.

She brought it to Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they arose and left that same night.

Saul himself was in the thick of the battle; ¹  the archers ²  spotted him and wounded him severely.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.

After the death of Saul, ¹  when David had returned from defeating the Amalekites, ²  he stayed at Ziklag ³  for two days.
