(Now Judas ¹  said this not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief. As keeper of the money box, ²  he used to steal what was put into it.) ³ 

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, ¹  because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides ²  with you and will be ³  in you.

I no longer call you slaves, ¹  because the slave does not understand ²  what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything ³  I heard ⁴  from my Father.

When a woman gives birth, she has distress ¹  because her time ²  has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being ³  has been born into the world. ⁴ 

Now I rejoice, not because you were made sad, ¹  but because you were made sad to the point of repentance. For you were made sad as God intended, ²  so that you were not harmed ³  in any way by us.

For indeed he was crucified by reason of weakness, but he lives because of God’s power. For we also are weak in him, but we will live together with him, because of God’s power toward you.

Everyone who has been fathered ¹  by God does not practice sin, ²  because ³  God’s ⁴  seed ⁵  resides in him, and thus ⁶  he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God.

Now ¹  when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been violently killed ²  because of the word of God and because of the testimony they had given.

Do not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.

Beware ¹  of people, because they will hand you over to councils ²  and flog ³  you in their synagogues. ⁴ 

And you will be brought before governors and kings ¹  because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles.

Whoever finds his life ¹  will lose it, ²  and whoever loses his life because of me ³  will find it.

But when the sun came up, they were scorched, and because they did not have sufficient root, they withered.

Although ¹  Herod ²  wanted to kill John, ³  he feared the crowd because they accepted John as a prophet.

Although it grieved the king, ¹  because of his oath and the dinner guests he commanded it to be given.

Meanwhile the boat, already far from land, ¹  was taking a beating from the waves because the wind was against it.

He ¹  said, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds ¹  regarded him as a prophet.

Jesus ¹  answered them, “You are deceived, ²  because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.

The ¹  foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’
