Then Hadadezer sent for Arameans from ¹  beyond the Euphrates River, ²  and they came to Helam. Shobach, the general in command of Hadadezer’s army, led them. ³ 

When Uriah came to him, David asked about how Joab and the army were doing and how the campaign was going. ¹ 

So now assemble the rest of the army ¹  and besiege the city and capture it. Otherwise I will capture the city and it will be named for me.”

Then the army marched out to the field to fight against Israel. The battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.

The army of Israel was defeated there by David’s men. ¹  The slaughter there was great that day – 20,000 soldiers were killed.

Now Joab was the general in command of all the army of Israel. Benaiah the son of Jehoida was over the Kerethites and the Perethites.

Indeed, ¹ with your help ²  I can charge ³  against an army; ⁴  by my God’s power ⁵  I can jump over a wall. ⁶ 

You rescue me from a hostile army; ¹  you preserve me as a leader of nations; people over whom I had no authority are now my subjects. ² 

During David’s campaign against Edom, ¹  Joab, the commander of the army, while on a mission to bury the dead, killed every male in Edom.

So Ahab ¹  assembled the 232 servants of the district governors. After that he assembled all the Israelite army, numbering 7,000. ² 

They marched out of the city with the servants of the district governors in the lead and the army behind them.

So he sent horses and chariots there, along with a good-sized army. ¹  They arrived during the night and surrounded the city.

So they picked two horsemen and the king sent them out to track the Syrian army. ¹  He ordered them, “Go and find out what’s going on.” ² 

David and the whole Israelite army ¹  advanced to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). ²  (The Jebusites, the land’s original inhabitants, lived there.) ³ 

Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was the commanding general of the king’s army.

Zerah the Cushite marched against them with an army of 1,000,000 ¹  men and 300 chariots. He arrived at Mareshah,

They commanded an army of 307,500 skilled and able warriors who were ready to defend ¹  the king against his enemies.

He appointed military officers over the army ¹  and assembled them in the square at the city gate. He encouraged them, ²  saying,
