We have submitted ¹  to Egypt and Assyria in order to buy food to eat. ² 

The young men perform menial labor; ¹  boys stagger from their labor. ² 

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.” ¹ 

He won’t thank the slave because he did what he was told, ¹  will he? ² 

But if we say, ‘From people,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

The officers replied, “No one ever spoke like this man!”

(Now Jesus had been talking about ¹  his death, but they ²  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) ³ 

But Peter helped him up, ¹  saying, “Stand up. I too am a mere mortal.” ² 

So then, no more boasting about mere mortals! ¹  For everything belongs to you,

One ¹  should think about us this way – as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins.

It is the same with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. ¹ 

For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad ¹  but the one I caused to be sad?

For though we live ¹  as human beings, ²  we do not wage war according to human standards, ³ 

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather ¹  expose them. ² 

These are all destined to perish with use, founded as they are ¹  on human commands and teachings. ² 

But reject those myths ¹  fit only for the godless and gullible, ²  and train yourself for godliness.

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

For there are many ¹  rebellious people, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those with Jewish connections, ²
