giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share ¹  in the saints’ ²  inheritance in the light.

The Lord has made a promise to Israel. He promises it as the one who fixed the sun to give light by day and the moon and stars to give light by night. He promises it as the one who stirs up the sea so that its waves roll. He promises it as the one who is known as the Lord who rules over all. ¹ 

That day ¹  – let it be darkness; ²  let not God on high regard ³  it, nor let light shine ⁴  on it!

to the land of utter darkness, like the deepest darkness, and the deepest shadow and disorder, ¹  where even the light ²  is like darkness.” ³ 

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

If I smiled at them, they hardly believed it; ¹  and they did not cause the light of my face to darken. ² 

He led them with a cloud by day, and with the light of a fire all night long.

How blessed are the people who worship you! ¹  O Lord, they experience your favor. ² 

“You are to make its seven lamps, ¹  and then set ²  its lamps up on it, so that it will give light ³  to the area in front of it.

“Speak to Aaron and tell him, ‘When you set up ¹  the lamps, the seven lamps are to give light ²  in front of the lampstand.’”

because the sun’s light failed. ¹  The temple curtain ²  was torn in two.

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb.

He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. ¹ 

My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see. ¹ 

In the light of the king’s face ¹  there is life, and his favor is like the clouds ²  of the spring rain. ³ 

The poor person and the oppressor ¹  have this in common: ²  the Lord gives light ³  to the eyes of them both.

What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light, and what is whispered in your ear, ¹  proclaim from the housetops. ² 

to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, ¹  to guide our feet into the way ²  of peace.”

for the fruit of the light ¹  consists in ²  all goodness, righteousness, and truth –

even the darkness is not too dark for you to see, ¹  and the night is as bright as ²  day; darkness and light are the same to you. ³
