The people of the earth will quake when they hear Babylon has been captured. Her cries of anguish will be heard by the other nations.” ¹ 

Cries of anguish will come from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Babylonians.

You heard ¹  my plea: ²  “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief!” ³ 

I will silence ¹  the noise of your songs; the sound of your harps will be heard no more.

The Lord had caused the Syrian camp to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a large army. Then they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has paid the kings of the Hittites and Egypt to attack us!”

The man replied, ¹  “I heard you moving about ²  in the orchard, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”

But the Lord said, “What have you done? ¹  The voice ²  of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!

Because you have obeyed me, ¹  all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another ²  using the name of your descendants.’”

All this will come to pass ¹  because Abraham obeyed me ²  and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” ³ 

So his mother told him, “Any curse against you will fall on me, ¹  my son! Just obey me! ²  Go and get them for me!”

Now then, my son, do what I say. ¹  Run away immediately ²  to my brother Laban in Haran.

When he heard me raise ¹  my voice and scream, he left his outer garment beside me and ran outside.”

but when I raised my voice and screamed, he left his outer garment and ran outside.”

He wept loudly; ¹  the Egyptians heard it and Pharaoh’s household heard about it. ² 

¹ Then all the community raised a loud cry, ²  and the people wept ³  that night.

All the Israelites ¹  who were around them fled at their cry, ²  for they said, “What if ³  the earth swallows us too?”

Then you came back and wept before the Lord, but he ¹  paid no attention to you whatsoever. ² 

Have a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the middle of fire, as you yourselves have, and lived to tell about it?
