They crossed at the ford in order to help the king’s household cross and to do whatever he thought appropriate. Now after he had crossed the Jordan, Shimei son of Gera threw himself down before the king.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the oak tree ¹  of Moreh ²  at Shechem. ³  (At that time the Canaanites were in the land.) ⁴

but your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, to do battle in the Lord’s presence, just as my lord says.”

But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must receive possessions among you in Canaan.”

We will cross armed in the Lord’s presence into the land of Canaan, and then the possession of our inheritance that we inherit will be ours on this side of the Jordan River.” ¹ 

“Let me pass through your land; I will keep strictly to the roadway. ¹  I will not turn aside to the right or the left.

Sell me food for cash ¹  so that I can eat and sell me water to drink. ²  Just allow me to go through on foot,

There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, ¹  anyone who practices divination, ²  an omen reader, ³  a soothsayer, ⁴  a sorcerer, ⁵ 

so that you may enter by oath into the covenant the Lord your God is making with you today. ¹
