For Heshbon was the city of King Sihon of the Amorites. Now he had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all of his land from his control, ¹  as far as the Arnon.

Nebo, Baal Meon (with a change of name), and Sibmah. They renamed ¹  the cities they built.

At that time we seized all his cities and put every one of them ¹  under divine judgment, ²  including even the women and children; we left no survivors.

We captured all his cities at that time – there was not a town we did not take from them – sixty cities, all the region of Argob, ¹  the dominion of Og in Bashan.

We put all of these under divine judgment ¹  just as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon – every occupied city, ²  including women and children.

all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecah ¹  and Edrei, ²  cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

They possessed his land and that of King Og of Bashan – both of whom were Amorite kings in the Transjordan, to the east.

When Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, ¹  captured it, Caleb ²  gave Acsah his daughter to him as a wife.

The men of Judah were unable to conquer the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. ¹  The Jebusites live with the people of Judah in Jerusalem to this very day. ² 

The Ephraimites ¹  did not conquer the Canaanites living in Gezer. The Canaanites live among the Ephraimites to this very day and do hard labor as their servants.

Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived east of the Jordan. They fought with you, but I handed them over to you; you conquered ¹  their land and I destroyed them from before you.

The men of Benjamin, however, did not conquer the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. ¹  The Jebusites live with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this very day. ² 

The men of Zebulun did not conquer the people living in Kitron and Nahalol. ¹  The Canaanites lived among them and were forced to do hard labor.

Since ¹  the Lord God of Israel has driven out ²  the Amorites before his people Israel, do you think you can just take it from them? ³
