Do not sweep me away ¹  with sinners, or execute me along with violent people, ² 

Violent men perjure themselves, ¹  and falsely accuse me. ² 

I have seen ruthless evil men ¹  growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil. ² 

My heart beats violently ¹  within me; the horrors of death overcome me. ² 

Confuse them, ¹  O Lord! Frustrate their plans! ²  For I see violence and conflict in the city.

May their eyes be blinded! ¹  Make them shake violently! ² 

He will defend ¹  the oppressed among the people; he will deliver ²  the children ³  of the poor and crush the oppressor.

From harm and violence he will defend them; ¹  he will value their lives. ² 

Remember your covenant promises, ¹  for the dark regions of the earth are full of places where violence rules. ² 

No enemy will be able to exact tribute ¹  from him; ²  a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him. ³ 

If only ¹  you would kill the wicked, O God! Get away from me, you violent men! ² 

he plots evil with perverse thoughts ¹  in his heart, he spreads contention ²  at all times.

a false witness who pours out lies, ¹  and a person who spreads discord ²  among family members. ³ 

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

Better is a dry crust of bread ¹  where there is quietness ²  than a house full of feasting with strife. ³ 

A relative ¹  offended ²  is harder to reach than ³  a strong city, and disputes are like the barred gates ⁴  of a fortified citadel. ⁵ 

The violence ¹  done by the wicked ²  will drag them away because ³  they refuse to do what is right. ⁴ 

Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, ¹  and do not deceive with your words. ² 

A poor person ¹  who oppresses the weak is like ²  a driving rain without food. ³ 

Scornful people ¹  inflame ²  a city, ³  but those who are wise turn away wrath.
