You calm the raging seas ¹  and their roaring waves, as well as the commotion made by the nations. ² 

¹ Some traveled on ²  the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters. ³ 

By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough.

and all were baptized ¹  into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

The chariots of Pharaoh ¹  and his army he has thrown into the sea, and his chosen ²  officers were drowned ³  in the Red Sea.

And it is not across the sea, as though one must say, “Who will cross over to the other side of the sea and get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”

You split the sea before them, and they crossed through ¹  the sea on dry ground! But you threw their pursuers ²  into the depths, like a stone into surging ³  waters.

Did you not dry up the sea, the waters of the great deep? Did you not make ¹  a path through the depths of the sea, so those delivered from bondage ²  could cross over?

People ¹  will stagger from sea to sea, ²  and from the north around to the east. They will wander about looking for a revelation from ³  the Lord, but they will not find any. ⁴
