They celebrate deliverance in the tents of the godly. ¹  The Lord’s right hand conquers, ² 

A song of ascents. ²  I look up ³  toward the hills. From where ⁴  does my help come?

A song of ascents. ²  I look up ³  toward you, the one enthroned ⁴  in heaven.

A song of ascents. ²  When the Lord restored the well-being of Zion, ³  we thought we were dreaming. ⁴ 

A song of ascents. ²  How blessed is every one of the Lord’s loyal followers, ³  each one who keeps his commands! ⁴ 

A song of ascents. ²  “Since my youth they have often attacked me,” let Israel say.

A song of ascents. ²  O Lord, for David’s sake remember all his strenuous effort, ³ 

Hezekiah ordered the burnt sacrifice to be offered on the altar. As they began to offer the sacrifice, they also began to sing to the Lord, accompanied by the trumpets and the musical instruments of King David of Israel.

For the music director; by the Lord’s servant David, who sang ²  to the Lord the words of this song when ³  the Lord rescued him from the power ⁴  of all his enemies, including Saul. ⁵  He said: ⁶  “I love ⁷  you, Lord, my source of strength! ⁸ 

For the music director; according to the al-tashcheth style; ²  a psalm of Asaph; a song. We give thanks to you, O God! We give thanks! You reveal your presence; ³  people tell about your amazing deeds.

From the ends of the earth we ¹  hear songs – the Just One is majestic. ²  But I ³  say, “I’m wasting away! I’m wasting away! I’m doomed! Deceivers deceive, deceivers thoroughly deceive!” ⁴ 

“And you, sing ¹  a lament for the princes of Israel,

Why did you run away secretly ¹  and deceive me? ²  Why didn’t you tell me so I could send you off with a celebration complete with singing, tambourines, and harps? ³ 

while David and all Israel ¹  were energetically celebrating before the Lord, singing ²  and playing various stringed instruments, ³  tambourines, rattles, ⁴  and cymbals.

These are the men David put in charge of music in the Lord’s sanctuary, ¹  after the ark was placed there.

For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm, a song. May God show us his favor ²  and bless us! ³  May he smile on us! ⁴  (Selah)

A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day. It is fitting ²  to thank the Lord, and to sing praises to your name, O sovereign One! ³ 

and the doors along the street are shut; when the sound of the grinding mill ¹  grows low, and one is awakened ²  by the sound of a bird, and all their ³  songs ⁴  grow faint, ⁵ 

I will turn your festivals into funerals, ¹  and all your songs into funeral dirges. I will make everyone wear funeral clothes ²  and cause every head to be shaved bald. ³  I will make you mourn as if you had lost your only son; ⁴  when it ends it will indeed have been a bitter day. ⁵
