You multiplied their descendants like the stars of the sky. You brought them to the land you had told their ancestors to enter in order to possess.

“But now, ask the animals and they ²  will teach you, or the birds of the sky and they will tell you.

For ¹  it has been hidden from the eyes of every living creature, and from the birds of the sky it has been concealed.

who teaches us ¹  more than ²  the wild animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?’

Yet its voice ¹  echoes ²  throughout the earth; its ³  words carry ⁴  to the distant horizon. ⁵  In the sky ⁶  he has pitched a tent for the sun. ⁷ 

It emerges from the distant horizon, ¹  and goes from one end of the sky to the other; ²  nothing can escape ³  its heat.

By the Lord’s decree ¹  the heavens were made; by a mere word from his mouth all the stars in the sky were created. ² 

They have given the corpses of your servants to the birds of the sky; ¹  the flesh of your loyal followers to the beasts of the earth.

They ¹  reached up to the sky, then dropped into the depths. The sailors’ strength ²  left them ³  because the danger was so great. ⁴ 

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty extends over the earth and sky.

When you gaze upon riches, ¹  they are gone, for they surely make wings for themselves, and fly off into the sky like an eagle! ² 

Look how you have fallen from the sky, O shining one, son of the dawn! ¹  You have been cut down to the ground, O conqueror ²  of the nations! ³ 

Shout for joy, O sky! ¹  Rejoice, O earth! Let the mountains give a joyful shout! For the Lord consoles his people and shows compassion to the ²  oppressed.

for just as the sky ¹  is higher than the earth, so my deeds ²  are superior to ³  your deeds and my plans ⁴  superior to your plans.

“I looked at the land and saw ¹  that it was an empty wasteland. ²  I looked up at the sky, and its light had vanished.

I looked and saw that there were no more people, ¹  and that all the birds in the sky had flown away.

Even if Babylon climbs high into the sky ¹  and fortifies her elevated stronghold, ²  I will send destroyers against her,” ³  says the Lord. ⁴ 

ק (Qof) Those who pursued us were swifter than eagles ¹  in the sky. ²  They chased us over the mountains; they ambushed us in the wilderness.

On its ruins all the birds of the sky will live, and all the wild animals ¹  will walk ²  on its branches.

When I extinguish you, I will cover the sky; I will darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not shine. ¹
