He ¹  sent messengers on ahead of him. ²  As they went along, ³  they entered a Samaritan village to make things ready in advance ⁴  for him,

At ¹  the time for the banquet ²  he sent his slave ³  to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

So he went and worked for ¹  one of the citizens of that country, who ²  sent him to his fields to feed pigs. ³ 

But his citizens ¹  hated ²  him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man ³  to be king ⁴  over us!’

Now ¹  when he approached Bethphage ²  and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, ³  he sent two of the disciples,

When ¹  he learned that he was from Herod’s jurisdiction, ²  he sent him over to Herod, ³  who also happened to be in Jerusalem ⁴  at that time.

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, ¹  dressing him in elegant clothes, ²  Herod ³  sent him back to Pilate.

Now ¹  this was ²  John’s ³  testimony ⁴  when the Jewish leaders ⁵  sent ⁶  priests and Levites from Jerusalem ⁷  to ask him, “Who are you?” ⁸ 

Then they said to him, “Who are you? Tell us ¹  so that we can give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me ¹  and to complete ²  his work. ³ 

I sent you to reap what you did not work for; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

And the Father who sent me has himself testified about me. You people ¹  have never heard his voice nor seen his form at any time, ² 

For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, ¹  and I will raise him up at the last day.

Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so the one who consumes ¹  me will live because of me.

The Pharisees ¹  heard the crowd ²  murmuring these things about Jesus, ³  so the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers ⁴  to arrest him. ⁵ 

Then Jesus said, “I will be with you for only a little while longer, ¹  and then ²  I am going to the one who sent me.

But if I judge, my evaluation is accurate, ¹  because I am not alone when I judge, ²  but I and the Father who sent me do so together. ³ 

And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, ¹  because I always do those things that please him.”

We must perform the deeds ¹  of the one who sent me ²  as long as ³  it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.
