Although its roots may grow old ¹  in the ground and its stump begins to die ²  in the soil, ³ 

“Surely you know ¹  that it has been from old, ever since humankind was placed ²  on the earth,

the young men would see me and step aside, ¹  and the old men would get up and remain standing;

They bear fruit even when they are old; they are filled with vitality and have many leaves. ¹ 

I recall the old days; ¹  I meditate on all you have done; I reflect on your accomplishments. ² 

The glory ¹  of young men is their strength, and the splendor ²  of old men is gray hair. ³ 

Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these days?” ¹  for it is not wise to ask that. ² 

I will restore Judah and Israel ¹  and will rebuild them as they were in days of old. ² 

(6:1) ¹  So Darius the Mede took control of the kingdom when he was about sixty-two years old.

But they did not have a child, because Elizabeth was barren, ¹  and they were both very old. ²

Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices

This is the account of Shem. Shem was 100 old when he became the father of Arphaxad, two years after the flood.

So Abram left, ¹  just as the Lord had told him to do, ²  and Lot went with him. (Now ³  Abram was 75 years old ⁴  when he departed from Haran.)

The Lord ¹  said to him, “Take for me a heifer, a goat, and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”

When Abram was 99 years old, ¹  the Lord appeared to him and said, ²  “I am the sovereign God. ³  Walk ⁴  before me ⁵  and be blameless. ⁶ 

So Sarah laughed to herself, thinking, ¹  “After I am worn out will I have pleasure, ²  especially when my husband is old too?” ³ 

The Lord said to Abraham, “Why ¹  did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really ²  have a child when I am old?’
