Because of all their evil in Gilgal, I hate them there. On account of their evil deeds, I will drive them out of my land. ¹  I will no longer love them; all their rulers are rebels.

But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord killed him.

What he did was evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord ¹  killed him too.

Then the Lord relented over the evil that he had said he would do to his people.

Aaron said, “Do not let your anger burn hot, my lord; ¹  you know these people, that they tend to evil. ²

Take heed, do not turn to evil, for because of this you have been tested ¹  by affliction.

When evil men attack me ¹  to devour my flesh, ²  when my adversaries and enemies attack me, ³  they stumble and fall. ⁴ 

An evil person suffers much pain, ¹  but the Lord’s faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him. ²
