Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. He took Gath and its surrounding towns ¹  away from the Philistines. ² 

The Lord humiliated ¹  Judah because of King Ahaz of Israel, ²  for he encouraged Judah to sin and was very ³  unfaithful to the Lord.

In his pain ¹  Manasseh ²  asked the Lord his God for mercy ³  and truly ⁴  humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. ⁵ 

Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people replied “Amen! Amen!” as they lifted their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

He entreats God, and God ¹  delights in him, he sees God’s face ²  with rejoicing, and God ³  restores to him his righteousness. ⁴ 

Rise up, Lord! Confront him! ¹  Knock him down! ²  Use your sword to rescue me from the wicked man! ³ 

The Lord’s shout bends ¹  the large trees ²  and strips ³  the leaves from the forests. ⁴  Everyone in his temple says, “Majestic!” ⁵ 

He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; ¹  he shatters ²  the bow and breaks ³  the spear; he burns ⁴  the shields with fire. ⁵ 

Do not strike them dead suddenly, because then my people might forget the lesson. ¹  Use your power to make them homeless vagabonds and then bring them down, O Lord who shields us! ² 

All the earth worships ¹  you and sings praises to you! They sing praises to your name!” (Selah)

when the anger of God flared up against them. He killed some of the strongest of them; he brought the young men of Israel to their knees.

All who worship idols are ashamed, those who boast about worthless idols. All the gods bow down before him. ¹ 

when those who keep watch over the house ¹  begin to tremble, ²  and the virile men begin to stoop over, ³  and the grinders ⁴  begin to cease because they grow few, and those who look through the windows grow dim, ⁵ 

I alone was left to see this great vision. My strength drained from ¹  me, and my vigor disappeared; ²  I was without energy. ³ 

He struggled ¹  with an angel and prevailed; he wept and begged for his favor. He found God ²  at Bethel, ³  and there he spoke with him! ⁴ 

Then I took my staff “Pleasantness” and cut it in two to annul my covenant that I had made with all the people.

And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship ¹  me.”

And a leper ¹  approached, and bowed low before him, saying, ²  “Lord, if ³  you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Then his fellow slave threw himself down and begged him, ¹  ‘Be patient with me, and I will repay you.’

But ¹  Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They ²  came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.
