But when Elihu saw ¹  that the three men had no further reply, ²  he became very angry.

Now I was paying you close attention, ¹  yet ²  there was no one proving Job wrong, ³  not one of you was answering his statements!

And further, ¹  when you say that his anger does not punish, ²  and that he does not know transgression! ³ 

Many say about me, “God will not deliver him.” ¹  (Selah) ² 

For ¹  they do not speak the truth; ²  their stomachs are like the place of destruction, ³  their throats like an open grave, ⁴  their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. ⁵ 

For no one remembers you in the realm of death, ¹  In Sheol who gives you thanks? ² 

The wicked man is so arrogant he always thinks, “God won’t hold me accountable; he doesn’t care.” ¹ 

Do not remain far away from me, for trouble is near and I have no one to help me. ¹ 

No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might.

Remain loyal to ¹  the Lord, you chosen people of his, ²  for his loyal followers ³  lack nothing!

My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see. ¹ 

We do not see any signs of God’s presence; ¹  there are no longer any prophets ²  and we have no one to tell us how long this will last. ³ 

They treat me like ¹  those who descend into the grave. ²  I am like a helpless man, ³ 

and ears, but cannot hear. Indeed, they cannot breathe. ¹ 

Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. ¹  No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares. ² 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

The one who robs ¹  his father and mother and says, “There is no transgression,” is a companion ²  to the one ³  who destroys.

I have concluded ¹  that there is nothing better for people ²  than ³  to be happy and to enjoy themselves ⁴  as long as they live,

For ¹  there is not one truly ²  righteous person on the earth who continually does good and never sins.

Your teeth are like a flock of newly-shorn sheep coming up from the washing place; ¹  each of them has a twin, and not one of them is missing.
