So they asked John, ¹  “Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, ²  nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus ¹  performed, they began to say to one another, “This is certainly the Prophet ²  who is to come into the world.” ³ 

It is written in the prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ ¹  Everyone who hears and learns from the Father ²  comes to me.

They replied, ¹  “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? ²  Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet ³  comes from Galilee!”

You aren’t greater than our father Abraham who died, are you? ¹  And the prophets died too! Who do you claim to be?”

So again they asked the man who used to be blind, ¹  “What do you say about him, since he caused you to see?” ²  “He is a prophet,” the man replied. ³ 

so that the word ¹  of Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled. He said, ²  “Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord ³  been revealed?” ⁴ 

So then, because ¹  he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants ²  on his throne, ³ 

This one ¹  heaven must ²  receive until the time all things are restored, ³  which God declared ⁴  from times long ago ⁵  through his holy prophets.

This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ¹  ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’ ² 

So Philip ran up ¹  to it ²  and heard the man ³  reading Isaiah the prophet. He ⁴  asked him, ⁵  “Do you understand what you’re reading?”

Then the eunuch said ¹  to Philip, “Please tell me, ²  who is the prophet saying this about – himself or someone else?” ³ 

About him all the prophets testify, ¹  that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins ²  through his name.”

“Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left and they are seeking my life!” ¹ 

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.

Now this secret ¹  was not disclosed to people ²  in former ³  generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by ⁴  the Spirit,

who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets ¹  and persecuted us severely. ²  They are displeasing to God and are opposed to all people,

After God spoke long ago ¹  in various portions ²  and in various ways ³  to our ancestors ⁴  through the prophets,

And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets.

yet was rebuked ¹  for his own transgression (a dumb donkey, ²  speaking with a human voice, ³  restrained the prophet’s madness). ⁴
