Furthermore, remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and so be careful to observe these statutes.

Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam ¹  along the way after you left Egypt.

Listen, ¹  my child, ²  to the instruction ³  from ⁴  your father, and do not forsake the teaching ⁵  from ⁶  your mother.

A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.

Remember this, so you can be brave! ¹  Think about it, you rebels! ² 

For ¹  I will remove the names of the Baal idols ²  from your lips, ³  so that you will never again utter their names!” ⁴ 

Those who revolt are knee-deep in slaughter, ¹  but I will discipline them all. ²
