He made ornamental chains ¹  and put them on top of the pillars. He also made one hundred pomegranate-shaped ornaments and arranged them within the chains.

But Amaziah did not heed the warning, ¹  for God wanted to hand them over to Joash because they followed the gods of Edom. ² 

The king replied, “Find Haman quickly so that we can do as Esther requests.” So the king and Haman went to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Tell us what we should ¹  say to him. We cannot prepare a case ²  because of the darkness.

She has prepared her meat, ¹  she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. ² 

In times of prosperity ¹  be joyful, but in times of adversity ²  consider this: God has made one as well as the other, ³  so that no one can discover what the future holds. ⁴ 

Arrange the table, lay out ¹  the carpet, eat and drink! ²  Get up, you officers, smear oil on the shields! ³ 

until I come and take you to a land just like your own – a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

Look, I will take control of his mind; ¹  he will receive a report and return to his own land. I will cut him down ²  with a sword in his own land.”’”

At the beginning ¹  of the wall of the court toward the south, ²  facing the courtyard and the building, were chambers

Then Daniel spoke with prudent counsel ¹  to Arioch, who was in charge of the king’s executioners and who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon.

They sound like ¹  chariots rumbling ²  over mountain tops, like the crackling ³  of blazing fire consuming stubble, like the noise of ⁴  a mighty army ⁵  being drawn up for battle. ⁶ 

(2:1) ¹ The Lord sent ²  a huge ³  fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

(Now the betrayer ¹  had given them a sign, saying, “The one I kiss is the man. ²  Arrest him!”) ³ 

They said to him, “Permit one of us to sit at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory.”

but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared.” ¹ 

He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar ¹  of water will meet you. Follow him.
