In the eighteenth year of his reign, he continued his policy of purifying the land and the temple. ¹  He sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the city official, and Joah son of Joahaz the secretary to repair the temple of the Lord his God.

When it rises up, the mighty are terrified, at its thrashing about they withdraw. ¹ 

But its swamps and its marshes will not become fresh; they will remain salty.

Set them apart ¹  in the truth; your word is truth.

So even the first covenant was inaugurated with blood. ¹ 

So he is to decontaminate the house with the blood of the bird, the fresh water, the live bird, the piece of cedar wood, the twigs of hyssop, and the scrap of crimson fabric,

and he is to purify ¹  the Most Holy Place, ²  he is to purify the Meeting Tent and the altar, ³  and he is to make atonement for ⁴  the priests and for all the people of the assembly.

Get up! Ritually consecrate the people and tell them this: ‘Ritually consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, because the Lord God of Israel says, “You are contaminated, ¹  O Israel! You will not be able to stand before your enemies until you remove what is contaminating you.” ² 

When ¹  the days of their feasting were finished, ²  Job would send ³  for them and sanctify ⁴  them; he would get up early ⁵  in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to ⁶  the number of them all. For Job thought, “Perhaps ⁷  my children ⁸  have sinned and cursed ⁹  God in their hearts.” This was Job’s customary practice.

Then Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes.

Let the priests also, who approach the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break through ¹  against them.”

You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you will be ceremonially clean, and afterward you may enter the camp.’”

Joshua told the people, “Ritually consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will perform miraculous deeds among you.”

You prove to be reliable ¹  to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive ²  to one who is perverse. ³ 

Elisha ¹  said, “Get me a new jar and put some salt in it.” So they got it.

The water has been pure to this very day, just as Elisha prophesied. ¹ 

The priests and Levites consecrated themselves so they could bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.

Fire resides in his tent; ¹  over his residence burning sulfur is scattered.

You prove to be reliable ¹  to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive ²  to one who is perverse. ³ 

Wash away my wrongdoing! ¹  Cleanse me of my sin! ²
