“The first one was like a lion with eagles’ wings. As I watched, its wings were pulled off and it was lifted up from the ground. It was made to stand on two feet like a human being, and a human mind ¹  was given to it. ² 

So ¹  the Lord replied, ²  “If ³  you had faith the size of ⁴  a mustard seed, you could say to this black mulberry ⁵  tree, ‘Be pulled out by the roots and planted in the sea,’ ⁶  and it would obey ⁷  you.

But Joash said to all those who confronted him, ¹  “Must you fight Baal’s battles? ²  Must you rescue him? Whoever takes up his cause ³  will die by morning! ⁴  If he really is a god, let him fight his own battles! ⁵  After all, it was his altar that was pulled down.” ⁶ 

He also tore down the tower of Penuel and executed the city’s men.

Then Saul stopped chasing the Philistines, and the Philistines went back home. ¹ 

Is ¹  not my power to help myself nothing, and has not every resource ²  been driven from me?

he who commands the sun and ¹  it does not shine ²  and seals up ³  the stars;

By the brush ¹  they would gather ²  herbs from the salt marshes, ³  and the root of the broom tree was their food.

Joyfully you will draw water from the springs of deliverance. ¹ 

I can clothe the sky in darkness; I can cover it with sackcloth.”

Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures ¹  will gather. ² 

but he ran off naked, ¹  leaving his linen cloth behind.

He replied, “What is impossible ¹  for mere humans ²  is possible for God.”

While they were screaming ¹  and throwing off their cloaks ²  and tossing dust ³  in the air,

These men are ¹  dangerous reefs ²  at your love feasts, ³  feasting without reverence, ⁴  feeding only themselves. ⁵  They are ⁶  waterless ⁷  clouds, carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruit ⁸  – twice dead, ⁹  uprooted;

When Jacob finished giving these instructions to his sons, he pulled his feet up onto the bed, breathed his last breath, and went ¹  to his people.
