“Listen! I am opposed to you, you proud city,” ¹  says the Lord God who rules over all. ²  “Indeed, ³  your day of reckoning ⁴  has come, the time when I will punish you. ⁵ 

You will stumble and fall, you proud city; no one will help you get up. I will set fire to your towns; it will burn up everything that surrounds you.” ¹ 

I will turn the land into a desolate ruin; her confident pride will come to an end. The mountains of Israel will be so desolate no one will pass through them.

And you are proud! ¹  Shouldn’t you have been deeply sorrowful instead and removed the one who did this ²  from among you?

Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom on account of your splendor. I threw you down to the ground; I placed you before kings, that they might see you.

In that day you ¹  will not be ashamed of all your rebelliousness against me, ²  for then I will remove from your midst those who proudly boast, ³  and you will never again be arrogant on my holy hill.

We are not trying to commend ¹  ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, ²  so that you may be able to answer those who take pride ³  in outward appearance ⁴  and not in what is in the heart.

You deliver oppressed ¹  people, but you watch the proud and bring them down. ² 

then he reveals ¹  to them what they have done, ²  and their transgressions, that they were behaving proudly.

For you deliver oppressed ¹  people, but you bring down those who have a proud look. ² 

Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! ¹ 

In God – I boast in his promise ¹  – in the Lord – I boast in his promise ²  –

Arrogant people smear my reputation with lies, ¹  but I observe your precepts with all my heart.

The arrogant dig pits to trap me, ¹  which violates your law. ² 

Although ¹  he is scornful to arrogant scoffers, ²  yet ³  he shows favor to the humble. ⁴ 

Before destruction the heart ¹  of a person is proud, but humility comes ²  before honor. ³ 

The greedy person ¹  stirs up dissension, ²  but the one who trusts ³  in the Lord will prosper. ⁴ 

So I boast ¹  in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.

so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” ¹ 

You defeated Edom ¹  and it has gone to your head. ²  Gloat over your success, ³  but stay in your palace. Why bring calamity on yourself? Why bring down yourself and Judah along with you?” ⁴
