¹ “If a man seduces a virgin ²  who is not engaged ³  and has sexual relations with her, he must surely endow ⁴  her to be his wife.

Then there were those who said, “We have borrowed money to pay our taxes to the king ¹  on our fields and our vineyards.

And in anger his lord turned him over to the prison guards to torture him ¹  until he repaid all he owed.

Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph bears a grudge and wants to repay ¹  us in full ²  for all the harm ³  we did to him?”

Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the captives ¹  from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the edict that you issued. Three times daily he offers his prayer.” ² 

and we did not eat anyone’s food without paying. ¹  Instead, in toil and drudgery we worked ²  night and day in order not to burden any of you.

In all cases of illegal possessions, ¹  whether for an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any kind of lost item, about which someone says ‘This belongs to me,’ ²  the matter of the two of them will come before the judges, ³  and the one whom ⁴  the judges declare guilty ⁵  must repay double to his neighbor.

If the sun has risen on him, then there is blood guilt for him. A thief ¹  must surely make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he will be sold for his theft.

but who pays back those who hate ¹  him as they deserve and destroys them. He will not ignore ²  those who hate him but will repay them as they deserve!

You are the reason I offer praise ¹  in the great assembly; I will fulfill my promises before the Lord’s loyal followers. ² 

Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! ¹ 

Yet ¹  if he is caught ²  he must repay ³  seven times over, he might even have to give ⁴  all the wealth of his house.

The Lord said, ¹  “I appointed prophets as watchmen to warn you, ²  saying: ‘Pay attention to the warning sound of the trumpet!’” ³  But they said, “We will not pay attention!”

He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and I will give you whatever is right.’

If its owner was with it, he will not have to pay; if it was hired, what was paid for the hire covers it. ¹ 

Then I will sing praises to your name continually, ¹  as I fulfill ²  my vows day after day.

My child, pay attention to my words; listen attentively ¹  to my sayings.

The one who is gracious ¹  to the poor lends ²  to the Lord, and the Lord ³  will repay him ⁴  for his good deed. ⁵ 

Who among you will pay attention to this? Who will listen attentively in the future? ¹
