The king said to Shimei, “You won’t die.” The king vowed an oath ¹  concerning this.

“As for you, get up and go home. When you set foot in the city, the boy will die.

Then ¹  his wife said to him, “Are you still holding firmly to your integrity? ²  Curse ³  God, and die!” ⁴ 

“Why did I not ²  die ³  at birth, ⁴  and why did I not expire as ⁵  I came out of the womb?

Although its roots may grow old ¹  in the ground and its stump begins to die ²  in the soil, ³ 

“Then I thought, ‘I will die in my own home, ¹  my days as numerous as the grains of sand. ² 

But ¹  evil men will die; the Lord’s enemies will be incinerated ²  – they will go up in smoke. ³ 

Listen to the painful cries of the prisoners! ¹  Use your great strength to set free those condemned to die! ²

He will die because ¹  there was no discipline; because of the greatness of his folly ²  he will reel. ³ 

Severe discipline ¹  is for the one who abandons the way; the one who hates reproof ²  will die.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; even if you strike him with the rod, he will not die.

if he should live a thousand years twice, yet does not enjoy his prosperity. For both of them die! ¹ 

Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool; otherwise ¹  you might die before your time.

The one who suffers ¹  will soon be released; he will not die in prison, ²  he will not go hungry. ³

So Thomas (called Didymus ¹ ) ²  said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so that we may die with him.” ³
