But I am like a deaf man – I hear nothing; I am like a mute who cannot speak. ¹ 

I cannot eat, I weep day and night; ¹  all day long they say to me, ²  “Where is your God?”

They devise ¹  unjust schemes; they disguise ²  a well-conceived plot. ³  Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered. ⁴ 

I will tell about your justice, and all day long proclaim your salvation, ¹  though I cannot fathom its full extent. ² 

Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! The world is established, it cannot be moved. He judges the nations fairly.”

which cannot fill the reaper’s hand, or the lap of the one who gathers the grain!

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; ¹  they are robbed of sleep ²  until they make someone stumble. ³ 

Like a city that is broken down and without a wall, so is a person who cannot control his temper. ¹ 

They do not comprehend or understand, for their eyes are blind and cannot see; their minds do not discern. ¹ 

Give them, O Lord – what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry, and breasts that cannot nurse! ¹ 

So ¹  Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guests ²  fast while the bridegroom ³  is with them, can you? ⁴ 

So if ¹  you cannot do such a very little thing as this, why do you worry about ²  the rest?

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

You will look for me ¹  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.”

Why don’t you understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot accept ¹  my teaching. ² 

If those people to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ (and the scripture cannot be broken), ¹ 

Paul said to the centurion ¹  and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you ²  cannot be saved.”

For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared ¹  to the glory that will be revealed to us.

For we have brought nothing into this world and so ¹  we cannot take a single thing out either.

Such idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field. They cannot talk. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them because they cannot hurt you. And they do not have any power to help you.” ¹
