It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves ¹  in charge, assigning ²  to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

After Jesus left ¹  the synagogue, he entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus ²  to help her. ³ 

“Peace I leave with you; ¹  my peace I give to you; I do not give it ²  to you as the world does. ³  Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. ⁴ 

Look, a time ¹  is coming – and has come – when you will be scattered, each one to his own home, ²  and I will be left alone. ³  Yet ⁴  I am not alone, because my Father ⁵  is with me.

So they began to leave, ¹  unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors ²  through the prophet Isaiah

and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women ¹  and were inflamed in their passions ²  for one another. Men ³  committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

but when I raised my voice and screamed, he left his outer garment and ran outside.”

Isaiah was still in the middle courtyard when the Lord told him, ¹

Like a vine he will let his sour grapes fall, ¹  and like an olive tree he will shed his blossoms. ² 

“For you took pledges ¹  from your brothers for no reason, and you stripped the clothing from the naked. ² 

Its underparts ¹  are the sharp points of potsherds, it leaves its mark in the mud like a threshing sledge. ² 

Like a bridegroom it emerges ¹  from its chamber; ²  like a strong man it enjoys ³  running its course. ⁴ 

Yet you have battered us, leaving us a heap of ruins overrun by wild dogs; ¹  you have covered us with darkness. ² 

but when the hot wind ¹  blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew.

The one who covers ¹  his transgressions will not prosper, ²  but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy. ³ 

“For if you forgive others ¹  their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.

As ¹  they were going away, ²  a man who could not talk and was demon-possessed was brought to him.

So ¹  they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
