O my God, make them like dead thistles, ¹  like dead weeds blown away by ²  the wind!

Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground; on that day their plans die. ¹ 

He then orders it all to melt; ¹  he breathes on it, ²  and the water flows.

O fire and hail, snow and clouds, ¹  O stormy wind that carries out his orders, ² 

The one who goes about slandering others ¹  reveals ²  secrets, but the one who is trustworthy ³  conceals a matter.

The one who troubles ¹  his family ²  will inherit nothing, ³  and the fool ⁴  will be a servant to the wise person. ⁵ 

The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper ¹  exalts ²  folly.

Speech ¹  that heals ²  is like ³  a life-giving tree, ⁴  but a perverse tongue ⁵  breaks the spirit.

A joyful heart ¹  makes the face cheerful, ²  but by a painful heart the spirit is broken.

All a person’s ways ¹  seem right ²  in his own opinion, ³  but the Lord evaluates ⁴  the motives. ⁵ 

Pride ¹  goes ²  before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ³ 

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

A cheerful heart ¹  brings good healing, ²  but a crushed spirit ³  dries up the bones. ⁴ 

Like cloudy skies and wind that produce no rain, ¹  so is the one who boasts ²  of a gift not given. ³ 

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

A fool lets fly with all his temper, ¹  but a wise person keeps it back. ² 

A person’s pride ¹  will bring him low, ²  but one who has a lowly spirit ³  will gain honor.

He who watches the wind will not sow, and he who observes the clouds will not reap. ¹ 

When you summon her for divorce, you prosecute her; ¹  he drives her away ²  with his strong wind in the day of the east wind. ³ 

Those who stray morally will gain understanding; ¹  those who complain will acquire insight. ²
