The officials of Succoth said, “You have not yet overpowered Zebah and Zalmunna. So why should we give ¹  bread to your army?” ²

All those who behave wickedly ¹  do not understand – ²  those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the Lord.

I was once young, now I am old. I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children ¹  forced to search for food. ² 

Even my close friend ¹  whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. ² 

All those who behave wickedly ¹  do not understand ²  – those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to God.
