At that time ¹  she became sick ²  and died. When they had washed ³  her body, ⁴  they placed it in an upstairs room.

You yourselves know that these hands of mine ¹  provided for my needs and the needs of those who were with me.

Not ¹  only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,

To the unmarried and widows I say that it is best for them to remain as I am.

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins.

who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment. ¹ 

You yourselves are our letter, ¹  written on our hearts, known and read by everyone,

Now we make known to you, brothers and sisters, ¹  the grace of God given to the churches of Macedonia,

On behalf of such an individual I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except about my weaknesses.

Now those who belong to Christ ¹  have crucified the flesh ²  with its passions ³  and desires.

For this reason I ask you ¹  not to lose heart because of what I am suffering for you, ²  which ³  is your glory. ⁴ 

so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.

to aspire to lead a quiet life, to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we commanded you.

On this topic we have much to say ¹  and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish ²  in hearing.

“For I will be merciful toward their evil deeds, and their sins I will remember no longer.” ¹ 

you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions.

And many will follow their debauched lifestyles. ¹  Because of these false teachers, ²  the way of truth will be slandered. ³
