Brothers and sisters, ¹  my heart’s desire and prayer to God on behalf of my fellow Israelites ²  is for their salvation.

For whenever someone says, “I am with Paul,” or “I am with Apollos,” are you not merely human? ¹ 

So if you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church? ¹ 

Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.

Does not nature ¹  itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace for him,

For in the first place, when you come together as a church I hear there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

For when it is time to eat, everyone proceeds with his own supper. One is hungry and another becomes drunk.

For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,

And there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. The glory of the heavenly body is one sort and the earthly another.

to the latter an odor ¹  from death to death, but to the former a fragrance from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? ² 

For it is not necessary ¹  for me to write you about this service ²  to the saints,

Indeed, the signs of an apostle were performed among you with great perseverance ¹  by signs and wonders and powerful deeds. ² 

But one, the son by the slave woman, was born by natural descent, ¹  while the other, the son by the free woman, was born through the promise.

It was he ¹  who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, ² 

Brothers and sisters, ¹  I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: ²  Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead,

For we wanted to come to you (I, Paul, in fact tried again and again) ¹  but Satan thwarted us.

Now Moses was faithful in all God’s ¹  house ²  as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.

Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are already priests who offer ¹  the gifts prescribed by the law.

So with these things prepared like this, the priests enter continually into the outer tent ¹  as they perform their duties.

At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way.
