telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body ¹  while we were asleep.’

So ¹  the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain Jesus had designated.

Because of the crowd, he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him so the crowd ¹  would not press toward him.

He did not speak to them without a parable. But privately he explained everything to his own disciples.

Now ¹  Jesus left that place and came to his hometown, ²  and his disciples followed him.

When John’s ¹  disciples heard this, they came and took his body and placed it in a tomb.

And they saw that some of Jesus’ disciples ate their bread with unclean hands, that is, unwashed.

Now ¹  when Jesus ²  had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about the parable.

His disciples answered him, “Where can someone get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”

Immediately he got into a boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha. ¹ 

When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and experts in the law ¹  arguing with them.

A disciple ¹  is not greater than ²  his teacher, but everyone when fully trained will be like his teacher.

(Now about five thousand men ¹  were there.) ²  Then ³  he said to his disciples, “Have ⁴  them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”

Then ¹  Jesus ²  turned ³  to his ⁴  disciples and said privately, “Blessed ⁵  are the eyes that see what you see!

Whoever does not carry his own cross ¹  and follow ²  me cannot be my disciple.

Now people ¹  were even bringing their babies ²  to him for him to touch. ³  But when the disciples saw it, they began to scold those who brought them. ⁴ 

But ¹  some of the Pharisees ²  in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” ³ 

When ¹  he got up from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhausted ²  from grief.

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal ¹  for your house will devour me.” ² 

When they were all satisfied, Jesus ¹  said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces that are left over, so that nothing is wasted.”
