Carrying out a wicked scheme ¹  is enjoyable ²  to a fool, and so is wisdom for the one who has discernment. ³ 

The shrewd person ¹  conceals ²  knowledge, but foolish people ³  publicize folly. ⁴ 

A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds reproof shows good sense. ¹ 

Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity ¹  than one who is perverse in his speech ²  and is a fool. ³ 

Luxury is not appropriate ¹  for a fool; ²  how much less for a servant to rule over princes! ³ 

The one who trusts in his own heart ¹  is a fool, but the one who walks in wisdom ²  will escape. ³ 

If a wise person ¹  goes to court ²  with a foolish person, there is no peace ³  whether he is angry or laughs. ⁴ 

Do you see someone ¹  who is hasty in his words? ²  There is more hope for a fool than for him. ³ 

The words of the wise are heard in quiet, more than the shouting of a ruler is heard ¹  among fools.

A wise person’s good sense protects him, ¹  but a fool’s lack of sense leaves him vulnerable. ² 

yet a fool keeps on babbling. ¹  No one knows what will happen; who can tell him what will happen in the future? ² 

Blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?

The king chanted the following lament for Abner: “Should Abner have died like a fool?

The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. ¹ 

In ¹  the speech ²  of a fool is a rod for his back, ³  but the words ⁴  of the wise protect them.

A fool will no longer be called honorable; a deceiver will no longer be called principled.

For since you are so wise, you put up with ¹  fools gladly.

I say again, let no one think that I am a fool. ¹  But if you do, then at least accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast a little.

For ¹  wrath kills the foolish person, ²  and anger ³  slays the silly one.

The one who troubles ¹  his family ²  will inherit nothing, ³  and the fool ⁴  will be a servant to the wise person. ⁵
