Wisdom is found in the words ¹  of the discerning person, ²  but the one who lacks wisdom ³  will be disciplined. ⁴ 

The one who refuses correction despises himself, ¹  but whoever hears ²  reproof acquires understanding. ³ 

Listen to advice ¹  and receive discipline, that ²  you may become wise ³  by the end of your life. ⁴ 

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

For the culmination of all things is near. So be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of prayer. ¹ 

So tell them: ‘This is a nation that has not obeyed the Lord their God and has not accepted correction. Faithfulness is nowhere to be found in it. These people do not even profess it anymore. ¹ 

I will throw my bird net over them while they are flying, I will bring them down like birds in the sky; I will discipline them when I hear them flocking together.

Instead he must be hospitable, devoted to what is good, sensible, upright, devout, and self-controlled.

Their houses are safe ¹  and without fear; ²  and no rod of punishment ³  from God is upon them. ⁴ 

Whether it is for punishment ¹  for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark. ² 

Listen to my instruction ¹  so that you may be wise, ²  and do not neglect it.

If you strike ¹  him with the rod, you will deliver him ²  from death. ³ 

For I, the Lord, affirm ¹  that I will be with you and will rescue you. I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you. But I will not completely destroy you. I will indeed discipline you, but only in due measure. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.” ²

It is good for a man ¹  to bear ²  the yoke ³  while he is young. ⁴ 

In this way ¹  they will train ²  the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,

Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled, ¹ 

I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings.

The one who heeds instruction ¹  is on the way to ²  life, but the one who rejects ³  rebuke goes astray.

“It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.” ¹
