They solemnly agreed ¹  to seek the Lord God of their ancestors ²  with their whole heart and being.

Please remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, the covenant of the priesthood, ¹  and the Levites.

“I made a covenant with ¹  my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin? ² 

The Lord’s loyal followers receive his guidance, ¹  and he reveals his covenantal demands to them. ² 

Remember your covenant promises, ¹  for the dark regions of the earth are full of places where violence rules. ² 

I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure. ¹ 

I will not break ¹  my covenant or go back on what I promised. ² 

You have repudiated ¹  your covenant with your servant; ²  you have thrown his crown to the ground. ³ 

He always remembers his covenantal decree, the promise he made ¹  to a thousand generations –

the promise ¹  he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac!

He gives ¹  food to his faithful followers; ²  he always remembers his covenant. ³ 

who leaves ¹  the husband ²  from her younger days, ³  and forgets her marriage covenant ⁴  made before God. ⁵ 

for this is my blood, the blood ¹  of the covenant, ²  that is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

He said to them, “This is my blood, the blood ¹  of the covenant, ²  that is poured out for many.

He has done this ¹  to show mercy ²  to our ancestors, ³  and to remember his holy covenant ⁴  –

accordingly Jesus has become the guarantee ¹  of a better covenant.

Now the first covenant, ¹  in fact, had regulations for worship and its earthly sanctuary.

and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.” ¹ 

Will it make a pact ¹  with you, so you could take it ²  as your slave for life?

“It will not be like the covenant ¹  that I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.
