A song of ascents. ²  Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; ¹  they are robbed of sleep ²  until they make someone stumble. ³ 

Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read ¹  and say, “Read this,” he says, “I can’t read.” ² 

The Lord who rules over all ¹  says, ‘I will bring war, ²  starvation, and disease on them. I will treat them like figs that are so rotten ³  they cannot be eaten.

As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and tie you up with them, so you cannot go out among them.

Or do you think that I cannot call on my Father, and that he would send me more than twelve legions ¹  of angels right now?

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

What did he mean by saying, ¹  ‘You will look for me ²  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come’?”

So the Jewish leaders ¹  began to say, ²  “Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’”

Paul said to the centurion ¹  and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you ²  cannot be saved.”

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you,” nor in turn can the head say to the foot, “I do not need you.”

And above the ark ¹  were the cherubim ²  of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Now is not the time to speak of these things in detail.

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe.

Surging waters cannot quench love; floodwaters ¹  cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions ²  to buy love, ³  the offer ⁴  would be utterly despised. ⁵ 

The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. ¹ 

For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the sake of the truth.

Justice is driven back; godliness ¹  stands far off. Indeed, ²  honesty stumbles in the city square and morality is not even able to enter.

The Lord says, ¹  “Yes indeed, ²  I am sending an enemy against you that will be like poisonous snakes which cannot be charmed away. ³  And they will inflict fatal wounds on you.” ⁴ 

But even the swiftest cannot get away. Even the strongest cannot escape. ¹  There in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall in defeat. ² 

He went away a second time and prayed, ¹  “My Father, if this cup ²  cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will must be done.”
