A wise king separates out ¹  the wicked; he turns the threshing wheel over them. ² 

There is desirable treasure and olive oil ¹  in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish person ²  devours all he has. ³ 

My child, ¹  if your heart is wise, then my heart also will be glad;

The father of a righteous person will rejoice greatly; ¹  whoever fathers a wise child ²  will have joy in him.

A wise warrior ¹  is strong, ²  and a man of knowledge makes his strength stronger;

Be wise, my son, ¹  and make my heart glad, so that I may answer ²  anyone who taunts me. ³ 

Wisdom gives a wise person more protection ¹  than ten rulers in a city.

Whoever obeys his ¹  command will not experience harm, and a wise person ²  knows the proper time ³  and procedure.

The words of the wise are heard in quiet, more than the shouting of a ruler is heard ¹  among fools.

A wise person’s good sense protects him, ¹  but a fool’s lack of sense leaves him vulnerable. ² 

The words of a wise person ¹  win him ²  favor, ³  but the words ⁴  of a fool are self-destructive. ⁵ 

Because of this the king got furiously angry ¹  and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! Amen.

Guard against self-deception, each of you. ¹  If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

Select wise and practical ¹  men, those known among your tribes, whom I may appoint as your leaders.”

I wish that they were wise and could understand this, and that they could comprehend what will happen to them.”

He catches ¹  the wise in their own craftiness, ²  and the counsel of the cunning ³  is brought to a quick end. ⁴ 

“Listen to my words, you wise men; hear ¹  me, you learned men. ² 

The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. ¹ 

A wise son accepts ¹  his father’s discipline, ²  but a scoffer ³  does not listen to rebuke.
