“Out of our way!” ¹  they cried, and “This man came to live here as a foreigner, ²  and now he dares to judge us! ³  We’ll do more harm ⁴  to you than to them!” They kept ⁵  pressing in on Lot until they were close enough ⁶  to break down the door.

You must keep my Sabbaths and reverence ¹  my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

And what I intended to do to them I will do to you.”

Why do you hide your face ¹  and regard me as your enemy?

Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid ¹  in your sight?

It eats away parts of his skin; ¹  the most terrible death ²  devours his limbs.

He preys on ¹  the barren and childless woman, ²  and does not treat the widow well.

Will it make numerous supplications to you, ¹  will it speak to you with tender words? ² 

You made us ¹  an object of ridicule ²  among the nations; foreigners treat us with contempt. ³ 

But you, O Lord, laugh in disgust at them; ¹  you taunt ²  all the nations.

Turn back toward us, O Lord! How long must this suffering last? ¹  Have pity on your servants! ² 

He caused all their conquerors ¹  to have pity on them.

They repay my love with accusations, ¹  but I continue to pray. ² 

If you, O Lord, were to keep track of ¹  sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? ² 

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” ¹  and call understanding a close relative,

If ¹  someone pampers his servant from youth, he will be a weakling ²  in the end.

“I, the Lord, also solemnly assert: ‘King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and the people who remain in Jerusalem ¹  or who have gone to live in Egypt are like those bad figs. I consider them to be just like those bad figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten. ² 

You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths!

bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat ¹  you.

Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. ¹
