The earth is broken in pieces, the earth is ripped to shreds, the earth shakes violently. ¹ 

How the people of Esau ¹  will be thoroughly plundered! ²  Their ³  hidden valuables will be ransacked! ⁴ 

“I will destroy ¹  everything from the face of the earth,” says the Lord.

Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ¹ 

But ¹  she was greatly troubled ²  by his words and began to wonder about the meaning of this greeting. ³ 

Then Peter started speaking: ¹  “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people, ² 

Before ¹  Jesus ²  arrived, John ³  had proclaimed a baptism for repentance ⁴  to all the people of Israel.

for the Lord will execute his sentence on the earth completely and quickly.” ¹ 

A person should examine himself first, ¹  and in this way ²  let him eat the bread and drink of the cup.

For they refreshed my spirit and yours. So then, recognize people like this.

For the appeal we make ¹  does not come ²  from error or impurity or with deceit,

Likewise also their wives ¹  must be dignified, not slanderous, temperate, faithful in every respect.

But the one who will rescue them ¹  is strong. He is known as the Lord who rules over all. ²  He will strongly ³  champion their cause. As a result ⁴  he will bring peace and rest to the earth, but trouble and turmoil ⁵  to the people who inhabit Babylonia. ⁶ 

But no one is able to enter a strong man’s ¹  house and steal his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can thoroughly plunder his house. ² 

When Herod ¹  had searched ²  for him and did not find him, he questioned ³  the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution. ⁴  Then ⁵  Herod ⁶  went down from Judea to Caesarea ⁷  and stayed there.

“I am a Jew, ¹  born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up ²  in this city, educated with strictness ³  under ⁴  Gamaliel ⁵  according to the law of our ancestors, ⁶  and was ⁷  zealous ⁸  for God just as all of you are today.

Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, ¹  we try to persuade ²  people, ³  but we are well known ⁴  to God, and I hope we are well known to your consciences too.
