Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine. ¹ 

ז (Zayin) Remember ¹  my impoverished and homeless condition, ²  which is a bitter poison. ³ 

I have desired ¹  no one’s silver or gold or clothing.

When the army entered the forest, they saw ¹  the honey flowing, but no one ate any of it, ²  for the army was afraid of the oath.

“When that time comes, people will no longer say, ‘The parents have eaten sour grapes, but the children’s teeth have grown numb.’ ¹ 

“What do you mean by quoting this proverb concerning the land of Israel, “‘The fathers eat sour grapes And the children’s teeth become numb?’ ¹ 

So ¹  I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it, and it did taste ²  as sweet as honey in my mouth, but ³  when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter.

But now we ¹  are dried up, ²  and there is nothing at all before us ³  except this manna!”

“If ¹  evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, ² 

They press out the olive oil between the rows of olive trees; ¹  they tread the winepresses while they are thirsty. ² 

You prove to be reliable ¹  to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive ²  to one who is perverse. ³ 

May those who say, “Aha! Aha!” be driven back ¹  and disgraced! ² 

I am disdained by them. ¹  When they see me, they shake their heads. ² 

in order to safeguard ¹  discretion, ²  and that your lips may guard knowledge.

For my mouth ¹  speaks truth, ²  and my lips ³  hate wickedness. ⁴ 

“Stolen waters ¹  are sweet, and food obtained in secret ²  is pleasant!”

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles ¹  in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. ² 

She knows ¹  that her merchandise is good, and her lamp ²  does not go out in the night.

They no longer sing and drink wine; ¹  the beer tastes bitter to those who drink it.
