So David sent someone to inquire about the woman. The messenger ¹  said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them ¹ ?

“If a man opens a pit or if a man digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,

but the one ¹  whom God raised up did not experience ²  decay.

you must then designate some towns as towns of refuge for you, to which a person who has killed someone unintentionally may flee.

Anyone who accidentally killed someone ¹  without hating him at the time of the accident ²  could flee to one of those cities and be safe.

If you build a new house, you must construct a guard rail ¹  around your roof to avoid being culpable ²  in the event someone should fall from it.
